Prerequisite course required. Consult CSUCI CatalogWhat is Latinx/e Sociology? Latinx/e sociology analyzes social formations and structural inequalities central to the lives of Latinx/e in varied social locations. Latinx/e sociology is grounded in Latinx/e standpoints (sociological and interdisciplinary) in which it places Latinx/e at the center of analysis. This direct use to capture the stories, counter-stories, and narratives of Latinx/e people to challenge and rework the knowledge of standard sociology. This seminar will provide new understanding of the Latinx/e in U.S. society and abroad. We must include the knowledge and experiences of people abroad (i.e., Latin America) because they do not live in isolation from people in the U.S. We will share our personal narratives, autoethnography, and testimonios to discuss topics in this sociology sub-field such as: self-identity; colorism; machismo; immigration; linguistic bias; and mental/physical health.
