SOC 362 - Sociology of the Family

Description

Hours: Three hours lecture per week Prerequisite: SOC 100, SOC 201, and SOC 202 (SOC 201 and/or SOC 202 may be taken concurrently) Description: Offers analysis of family as social institution that meets specific social needs and as social construction that is culturally bound and malleable. Presents an understanding of contemporary intimate life in U.S. by examining social history of families and current areas of concern, particularly with regards to social inequalities. Throughout, focuses on role of theory and evidence in drawing conclusions about families, including examination of common research methods used to study family.
