Owners of commercial properties have experienced tremendous losses in the recent financial crisis. Their buildings have gone from occupied at a substantial rental price to “vacant”. Many owners have had to take drastic measures, reducing rents, and cutting maintenance expenditures. Some have even have to sell their buildings at a loss. So is this a good time to make improvements? For this study I employ in-depth market research that tracks energy consumption rates of several apartment buildings, researches new energy conservation applications and explores the legal implications of implementing new low energy technologies. Finally I compare multiple ways of managing commercial/residential property and establish an efficient way to minimize energy expenditures.
