Description: Examines a range of contemporary global health topics through an interdisciplinary lens, focusing on how social inequality, race, class, gender, environmental changes, politics, economics, and history have shaped and continue to shape health access and outcomes. Gives students a working knowledge of theories, methods, and key terms in global health, a historical overview of the field, and in-depth examinations of specific health issues. Themes include: communicable and non-communicable diseases, maternal-child health, ecological determinants of health, international development and global aid work, and systematic approaches to addressing global health disparities. Course is reading-, writing-, and discussion-intensive.
