Description: Hours: Three hours lecture per week
Prerequisite: Successful completion of Golden Four GE Areas (1A, 1B, 1C, 2)
Description: Examines the visual arts and architecture of cultures in Europe and the Mediterranean region from prehistory through the Classical age. Using examples drawn from Greek and Roman antiquity as well as other ancient cultures, this course examines issues of enduring relevance, such as how architecture shapes human societies, the ways art transmits culture and creates communal identity, and the uses of antiquity in the contemporary world. Students should plan for one off-site museum visit, by arrangement.
