Description: Hours: Three hours lecture per week Prerequisite(s): ECS 460 & ECS 461, Senior Standing and Program permission Corequisite(s): ECS 480 & ECS 486 Description: Examination of guidance as a social and emotional practice for children 3-8 years of age. Identification of social and emotional skills including empathy, self-regulation, motivation, confidence, and wonder. Focus on classroom arrangement, materials, routines, schedules, and rules that assist with the creation of a positive classroom ecology from a play-based perspective. Design of physical classroom space including the development of learning centers to promote learning through play. Emphasis on teacher-child and peer interactions focusing on children¿s rights regarding equitable environments based on social justice principles. Attention to different aspects of diversity in the classroom including gender, age, ability, language, learning style, family structure, religion, culture, and ethnicity.
