Description: Examines the role of play for children's development and learning in diverse and global early childhood settings. Description of the major types of play behavior of young children from different cultural perspectives. Identifies the role of the teacher and families as facilitators of play for young children. Discussion of effective strategies, equipment, materials, and activities that support and encourage young children's play in a variety of early childhood settings. Special emphasis on issues of equitable indoor and outdoor environments for children of diverse backgrounds. Ten hours of observation required.
