Class Number: 3536
Description: Hours: Three hours lecture per week
Prerequisite: Successful completion of Golden Four GE Areas (1A, 1B, 1C, 2)
Description: This course explores the intersection of creativity, psychology, and neuroscience to better understand how art is made, experienced, and interpreted. Students will investigate the ways in which the brain engages with painting, sculpture, film, and music, and how artistic expression contributes to individual and collective well-being. The course emphasizes both personal and cultural perspectives, examining symbolism, allegory, and the possible utility of creativity in clinical and therapeutic settings. Through readings, a sketchbook project, discussions, and creation of original artworks, students will analyze works of art, articulate emotional and intellectual responses, and connect psychological insights with artistic practice.
