Description
Hours: Three hours of lecture a week Prerequisite: SPAN 201 and SPAN 202; or SPAN 211 and SPAN 212; or Consent of Instructor Description: Develops interpreting skills between English and Spanish in the three main modes of interpretation (sight, consecutive, and simultaneous). Exercises build fluency, improve comprehension, and increase speed and accuracy in information-processing and conversion. Skills practiced include mental agility (e.g., memory development, summarizing techniques); voice control (e.g., breathing techniques, diction); and language control (e.g., interpreting register). Students also acquire knowledge of issues related to the interpreting profession such as ethics, decision-making, and professional standards.
