Description
Hours: Four hours lecture per week Description: First semester in two-semester, stretch sequence covering pre-calculus topics with embedded support, including algebraic reasoning, problem-solving, and critical thinking. Students will: engage in cooperative and active learning; learn about functions, including notation, representations, and interpretation for various families of functions (focusing on five: linear, quadratic, polynomial, rational, and rational exponent); demonstrate understanding of fundamental concepts from arithmetic, geometry, and intermediate algebra; and determine appropriate problem-solving techniques, including numerical methods, algebraic reasoning, or graphical techniques (including use of graphing software). Successful completion of MATH 103 prepares students to enroll in MATH 104 in the following semester to fulfill their first year Mathematics/Quantitative Reasoning requirement (GE Area B4).
