Description

Hours: Three hours lecture per week Description: A history of magic, witchcraft, and alchemy in early modern Europe (1400-1700), with particular attention to the relationship of supernatural beliefs to religion, science, and society. This course examines popular and learned magical practices, early modern witch beliefs, witch hunting and witch panics, as well as the legal and intellectual changes that brought an end to the so-called witch craze.
