MATH 331 - History of Mathematics

Description

Hours: Three hours lecture per week Prerequisite: Junior Standing and successful completion of Golden Four GE Areas (A1, A2, A3, B4) Description: Study of breakthrough mathematical ideas and their creators, including historical and scientific context. Important concepts of current mathematics are studied: inception, development, difficulties, significance and various viewpoints will be presented. Lecture-discussion. At least one significant writing assignment is required.
