PSY 300 - Psych Res & Stats Methds I

Description

Hours: Three hours lecture and three hours lab per week Prerequisite: PSY 100 and MATH 200 or PSY 202/MATH 202, both with grades of C or better; or Consent of Instructor Description: PSY 300-Lab I provides an introduction to research methodology and a basic framework for evaluation of social and behavioral science research. This course includes writing intensive assignments and lab activities as it is a GWAR-designated course. Topics focus on application of scientific method within field of psychology and social sciences, including ethical guidelines and issues related to research in, and practice of, psychology. Students will learn to critically evaluate research and popular claims in psychology. Course and lab will integrate use of software package SPSS for data management and hypothesis testing. Coursework on inferential and descriptive statistical methods will build on material from PSY 202/MATH 202. Students must earn a C- or better to fulfill Graduate Writing Assessment Requirement (GWAR).
