ART 490 - Special Topics in Art

Description

Hours: Three hours lecture per week Prerequisites: Art Major, Upper Division Standing Special topics explore a variety of themes investigating the relationships of art and artists to aspects of social commentary, multiculturalism, experimental genres, commerce, first amendment rights and the role of art in a global society. Topics are presented on a rotating basis. Students are given the opportunity to experience in-depth interaction with visiting artists, industry professionals, art scholars and academicians.

An introduction to the basic skills and problem-solving of designing, constructing, and binding books by hand and will address technical, formal, and conceptual issues and how it relates to book structure, text, image and the multiple. Additionally, we will explore the intersection of print and bookmaking by utilizing hand-carved printed blocks within the pages and covers of your books.
