MATH 208 - Modern Math for Elementary Tch

Description

Hours: Three hours lecture per week Description: Current issues of modern math curriculum including abstract thinking and problem solving approaches to teaching. Content covers systems of numeration, nature of numbers and fundamental operations, relations and functions, properties of integers, rational and real numbers, and mathematical modeling. Problem solving strategies and geometric interpretations are stressed. Designed for students intending to teach in K-8. This course is not open to students who have credit for Calculus.

Students in this course needing basic algebra help should sign up for a support section MATH 99 ( 1 unit), which is open to all but required for students needing support. The course includes service learning project in local schools (several hours). Sign up for the MATH 399 section with your instructor for 1 unit credit (no extra time required).
