HIST 333 - Hist of So Cal Chicana/O Art

Description

Hours: Three hours lecture per week Prerequisite: Junior Standing and successful completion of Golden Four GE Areas (A1, A2, A3, B4) Description: Explores Chicana/o/x visual and material culture. Students will investigate the role of art within the Chicana/o/x community, politics of identity, history and counter-narratives, representation and stereotypes. Also examines the impact of institutions and collectors on the practices and value of Chicana/o/x art, display practices, and the importance of Mexican heritage underlying the development of the Chicana/o/x community and culture.
