Description: The focus of this course provides an overview of assessment in early childhood. The course will offer students both research-based theory and practical applications in the area of child, family, and community assessment methods. Students in this course will examine equity and inclusion issues to child assessment practices. Thorough investigation of comparison and contrasting of current assessment trends in California, United States, and international assessment methods will be evaluated. Students will research formative and summative assessment practices, including the narrative Learning Stories approach. Students will apply the knowledge gained during class sessions, readings, research, and community engagement to implement culturally sustaining assessment practices for young, diverse children and adults.
