Description: This course introduces students to foundational statistical concepts and tools essential for environmental science and resource management. Students will develop quantitative and analytical skills through practical applications of open-source software such as R, alongside accessible non-command line tools like Excel, JMP, and Tableau. Analytical topics include parametric and non-parametric methods, probability distributions, hypothesis testing, and regression analysis. Coursework emphasizes data management, quality assurance, and visualization, with a focus on interpreting environmental and social science data. By the end of the course, students will gain confidence in using statistical methods to explore and analyze complex environmental problems.
