Description: Hours: Three hours lecture per week Prerequisite:Junior Standing and successful completion of Golden Four GE Areas (A1, A2, A3, B4) or Consent of Instructor Description: The study of music in its cultural and historical contexts, with an emphasis on the role of music as a form of human expression. A broad range of musical styles will be studied, including, but not limited to, European, Asian, and Middle Eastern classical music; American jazz and popular music; and folk music of western and non-western cultures. Students will study the unifying and authenticating nature of music within groups of people, as well as study the experience of music on a personal level.
