Description: This course provides a linguistic exploration of Spanish language variation. It explores different types of language variations, including historical change (language evolution from Latin to Spanish), geographical variation (different dialects in the Spanish-speaking world), and sociolinguistic variation (based on economic class, age, gender, etc.). It also analyzes fundamental issues in bilingualism (such as Spanish-English codeswitching) and other sociopolitical topics relating to the use of Spanish in the United States.
