Notes
- Consent of Instructor Required. LABS will be conducted at MODOC 160 Description of my CHEM 491 course: Students in this course apply scientific theories to understand research problems. This laboratory course explores the interface between chemistry and biology by design and synthesis of molecules capable of producing physiological changes in biological systems. Nucleoside analogues will be synthesized, and chemically modified nucleic acids and their applications to regulate gene expression will be discussed. Other topics include enzyme inhibition and reactions involved in biosynthetic and metabolic pathways. Advanced synthetic protocols, purification and characterization techniques will be applied. Students will work in groups and use the literature to develop their own research plans.
