Description: Hours: Three hours lecture per week Prerequisite: BIOL 200 and Successful completion of Golden Four GE Areas (1A, 1B, 1C, 2) Definition: Ethnobotany is an interdisciplinary area that allows students to integrate science and culture as a way of understanding human reliance on plants and the environment. The course combines the study of the interaction of people and plants with a broad survey of the diversity of plants described both scientifically and culturally. Students learn about the social impact of plants on culture while becoming knowledgeable in the science, characteristics, uses, and names of the major plant phyla. This course has a substantive writing requirement.
