Biography
Steve was born, raised, and educated in Michigan. He received his A.B. in communications from the University of Michigan, a M.A. in counseling from Eastern Michigan University, and a M.S. in library science at Wayne State University. At that point he had decided that winter was much too long in Michigan and sought warmer climes, which has eventually landed him here at CSUCI.
Steve has served as librarian at the New York Public Library, George Mason University, and Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, Virginia. His work has been predominately in government information and collection development in the health and social sciences. He has a research interest in information provision to GLBT people, and access to HIV/AIDS information in diverse communities, and Indigenous issues in libraries and archives. He served as co-chair of Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, and Transgender Round Table of the American Library Association, the oldest LGBT professional group in the United States, from 2001-2005. His book, The Encyclopedia of HIV and AIDS, was published by Facts on File in 2003, and a newer edition in 2012. He has served as a member of the Stonewall Book Awards Committee twice, and currently serves as the secretary for the International Federation of Library Associations, Indigenous Matters Section.
