Biography
Dr. Kimmy Seok Lye Kee-Rose was born and raised on the beautiful island of Penang, Malaysia. She came to the United States to pursue her higher education, receiving her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Psychology from Wooster College in Ohio in 1989. Subsequently, she earned her Doctor of Philosophy Degree in Clinical Psychology from Medical College of Pennsylvania and Hahnemann University in Philadelphia in 1996. To further develop her training in schizophrenia research, in 1994, Dr. Kee completed her pre-doctoral internship at the UCLA Clinical Research Center then housed at Camarillo State Hospital (the present site of our university). She continued to study this area of psychopathology during a postdoctoral fellowship at UCLA, and subsequently as an Assistant Research Psychologist in the UCLA Department of Psychiatry and Biobehavioral Sciences.
Dr. Kee’s primary area of interest within schizophrenia has involved studying neurocognitive processes within social or interpersonal domains, an area known as social cognition. One key component of social cognition she has focused on is the ability to process emotion. For her work in this area, Dr. Kee received the Young Investigator Award from the International Congress on Schizophrenia Research and the Outstanding Young Scientist Award from the National Alliance of the Mentally Ill in 1999. Her studies have been published in a variety of professional journals and presented at numerous national and international scientific conferences.
In 2001, Dr. Kee began teaching part-time at California State University, Northridge at Channel Islands. She remains very excited and enthusiastic about having an opportunity to be a part of the continued growth and progress of our academic community. Dr. Kee’s husband, Gordon, is also a clinical psychologist. They live with their son in Thousand Oaks.
