Biography
Dr. Jeanne Grier is Professor of Secondary Education at CSU Channel Islands and has been with the faculty since the opening of the university in 2002. She received her Ph.D. in Teaching and Teacher Education with a minor in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology from the University of Arizona in 1998. She has a B.A. in Interdisciplinary Studies (Chemistry, Biology and Art) and an M.Ed. in Curriculum and Instruction, Science Education emphasis from the University of Missouri-Columbia. A former high school biology teacher, Dr. Grier specializes in secondary science teacher education and has received over $500,000 in grant funding to support the recruitment of students into math and science teaching. Since arriving at Channel Islands Dr. Grier has authored and coordinated the Single Subject Credential Program which offers credentials in the areas of Mathematics, Science, English, and Social Studies. She is currently the Director of the CI Math and Science Teacher Initiative and is co-PI on the NSF Robert Noyce Teaching Scholars program, which provides support for math and science students entering the credential programs. Research interests include career changers as teachers and teacher identity.
