Biography
Harley Baker has had a longstanding interest and commitment to teaching and research. His teaching career has spanned every level of instruction from elementary school through doctoral study. He has held senior research positions at the American Institutes for Research, in the Federal Government, and at the University of California. Dr. Baker’s current teaching and research interests include the psychology of religious experience, attachment, career development, and psychological testing.
Dr. Baker completed his BA in psychology at CSU Stanislaus, the MA in psychology at San Jose State University, and the MS in developmental psychology at UC Santa Cruz. He received his Doctor of Education from the University of San Francisco.
Dr. Baker has been the recipient of awards and recognition both for his scholarship and his assistance to educational advocacy organizations. His dissertation, which focused on the relationship between attachment and career development, received the dissertation of the year award from the National Career Development Association. He was honored by WESTOP, the Western Association of Educational Opportunity Personnel, for his evaluation of educational equity programs.
Prior to coming to CI, Dr. Baker was the national manager of the ASVAB Career Exploration Program. Perhaps the largest adolescent career development program in the world, the ASVAB Program provides career development materials and resources for over 750,000 students in over 14,000 high schools across the country. Dr. Baker's work in the ASVAB Program was cited by the Department of Labor as an exemplary program.
Harley and his wife Connie have two children and two grandchildren.
