Biography
Brian Thoms was born on the outskirts of NYC in what was once a small whaling community on Long Island. He combined his penchant for computing, which he inherited from his father, a computer scientist with his passion for teaching, which he inherited from his mother, a grade school science teacher, to become Assistant professor of Computer Science at CSU Channel Islands.
On the road to Channel Islands, Brian received his BS in Computer Science from Fordham University, his MS in Information Systems from Stevens Tech and his PhD in Information Systems and Technology from Claremont Graduate University where his research focuses on social learning software.
Brian is also Chief Software Engineer and co-Founder at Health e-Services (healtheservices.com), which specializes in providing affordable personal health management systems for at-risk populations. Within this space, his research focuses on the design and implementation of innovative information systems across public and private organizations.

Prior to joining academic life, Brian worked for five years as a software developer and analyst for Salomon Smith Barney in downtown Manhattan. Today, Brian continues to work part-time building intelligent systems for both small businesses and non-profits.
