Biography
Dr. Andrea Grove is Professor of Political Science at CI. She received a Ph.D. in Political Science from The Ohio State University in 1999, an M.A. in International Relations and Strategic Studies from Lancaster University (in the United Kingdom, where she was a Rotary Ambassadorial Scholar) in 1993, and a B.A. in Political Science from the University of Georgia (Highest Honors and Summa Cum Laude, 1992).
She began her professional career as a Visiting Assistant Professor at the University of Vermont in 1999-2000. Dr. Grove joined the faculty at Westminster College near Pittsburgh in the Fall of 2000. At Westminster, Dr. Grove served as the Director of the Peace Studies Program and coordinator of the International Politics major. Dr. Grove joined the faculty of California State University Channel Islands in fall 2006, as Associate Professor of Political Science and was promoted to Professor in 2011. Other positions are Director, Global Studies Program; Faculty Director, Center for International Affairs (CIA); and Coordinator, Peace Corps Prep Program. Dr. Grove has also served as Director, California Institute for Social Business (2010-2019), established in collaboration with Nobel Prize winner Muhammad Yunus; and Faculty Director, Center for Community Engagement (2007-2012). She teaches in the areas of international relations and foreign policy, and enjoys teaching travel courses that enable students to experience history and politics in South Africa and Northern Ireland., In 2008, she founded the CI Model United Nations Team, which has won many awards in Western conferences since then. She has won multiple teaching awards at CSU Channel Islands.
Dr. Grove’s research interests include political leadership, foreign policy analysis and decision making, Global South issues, and conflict resolution, and she has conducted field work in Northern Ireland and South Africa. Her work appears in the journals International Studies Quarterly, International Studies Perspectives, Foreign Policy Analysis, International Politics, Politikon: The South African Journal of Political Science, Journal of Political Science Education, Nationalism and Ethnic Politics, and Political Psychology. She is also published in the 2010 International Studies Encyclopedia (“Foreign Policy and Culture”) and the 2018 Oxford Research Encyclopedia of Foreign Policy Analysis ("Foreign Policy Leadership in the Global South"). Her first book, Political Leadership and Foreign Policy: Manipulating Support Across Borders, was published by Palgrave in 2007; her second book: Social Business: Theory, Practice, and Critical Perspectives was published by Springer in 2014.
In 2024, Dr.Grove published two books: Maneuver and Exploit: Global South Foreign Policy in the Transnational Context (Lexington Books) and American Foreign Policy, 22nd edition, with Steven Hook and John Spanier (Sage CQ Press).
She lives in Camarillo with her husband, Dr. Chris Scholl, and their two boys, Ethan and Ryan.
