Biography
Born and raised in Beijing, China, Nian-Sheng Huang became a farmer during the Chinese Cultural Revolution when most schools were closed. He stayed in a small village in Inner Mongolia for ten years before attending the Teachers University in the same region, where he obtained a B. A. degree in political science and history. He also received an M. A. in history from Tufts University and a Ph. D. in history from Cornell University. Dr. Huang has taught some twenty different courses in American, East Asian, and world histories in New York, Massachusetts, and California, and conducted his research projects at more than sixty large and small institutions nationwide. He is the author of Benjamin Franklin in American Thought and Culture, 1790-1990 (a “Choice Outstanding Academic Book” for 1995) and Franklin's Father Josiah (2000), both published by the American Philosophical Society. He is most pleased to share the joy and excitement of learning, thinking, and writing about history with his students at CSUCI.
