Biography
Margarita López López is the daughter of immigrant parents from Aguascalientes, Mexico. She grew up in Mexicali, Baja California and moved to the San Fernando Valley where she earned her B.A. in Spanish Language and Culture from CSU Northridge. She lived in Orange County where she earned her M.A. and Ph.D. from UC Irvine. Before arriving at CI, Dr. López López also taught at UCI, CSUN, CSU Domínguez Hills, CSU Fullerton, Occidental College, Los Angeles Pierce College, and Los Angeles Valley College.
Dr. Lopez López's research interests and areas of expertise are: Mexican Literature, Chicana/o-Latina/o Literature, Gender and Feminist Studies, Latin American Literature, Translation and Interpretation, Sociolinguistics, Immigration Narratives, U.S.-Mexico Border Literature and Transnational Social Justice.
When she is not reading, writing, or teaching, you can find Dr. López López hiking or enjoying nature–at the beach, a mountain, the desert or in another country. She enjoys poetry, theatre, guitar, and playing with the many intricacies of language. She truly enjoys international foods and hates multinational corporations.
Her interest in interdisciplinary pedagogy and mentoring first-generation college students brought her to CI.
