World Music Guest Performance: Mauricio Yazigi

The World Music Guest Performer Lecture Series is an IRA-sponsored event for the new PAMU 332 World Music course. Five different in-class performances will take place throughout the semester highlighting different regions, countries, cultures and their music. Expert musicians representing the music of W. Africa, Brazil, Ireland, Spain and India will bring their talents to the CI campus and perform and speak with our students.
Flamenco guitarist Mauricio Yazigi received a diploma in Musical Composition and Arrangements from the "Instituto Profesional Escuela Moderna de Música" in his native Chile and graduated from the Berklee College of Music in Boston. Since moving to Los Angeles, Yazigi has been active as a composer and guitarist with credits including recording on the FOX primetime show K-ville. Dancer Arleen Hurtado studied Flamenco dancing in Seville and Jerez de la Frontera, Spain. She has performed at Carnegie Hall in New York and the Greek Theatre in Los Angeles and has been featured in music videos, commercials, television, print ads and three PBS specials. This acclaimed Guitar-Dancer Flamenco duo has performed throughout Southern California and will be a featured here at Channel Islands.
PARKING INFORMATION: This event is free and open to the public. Limited parking is available on campus. A daily permit is $6. Free parking is available at the Camarillo Metrolink Station/Lewis Road parking lot in Camarillo with bus service to and from the campus. Riders should board the VISTA Bus to the campus; the fare is $1.25 each way. Buses arrive and depart from the Camarillo Metrolink Station every 30 minutes from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Friday. For exact times, check the schedule at www.goventura.org.
