Project Details |
This project entails assisting Dr. Perry in the ongoing analysis of archaeological collections from Santa Cruz Island, one of California's Channel Islands. The collections come from prehistoric shell middens that date to between 5,000 and 200 years ago based on Dr. Perry's excavations. Tasks that students may be involved with include sorting and identifying different categories of cultural materials including stone tools and food items (bone and shell); conducting archival research to find relevant historic documents; and/or preparing maps and artifact illustrations. This is excellent experience for anyone interested in archaeology, marine and island ecology, local history, and other relevant fields. Options include volunteering, enrolling in an independent study course, or relating it to a capstone project. For all inquires, please contact Dr. Perry at jennifer.perry@csuci. |
Eligibility Requirements | Completion of ANTH 105 (Introduction to Archaeology) or the equivalent. Preference will be given to Anthropology majors and minors, as well as students who have taken ANTH 377 (Archaeological Method and Theory). |
Deadline | 12/31/2013 |
