Project Details This project focuses on documenting the history of human occupations on Rancho Guadalasca, a Mexican-era land grant which includes the area where CSUCI is located..

Students and Dr. Delaney have surveyed and excavated materials from archaeological sites that date to the last 2,500 years. The project needs additional students for a variety of projects/topics:

a) analysis of shell, bone, stone tools and other artifacts to determine the daily life of the Chumash during the last 2,500 years

b) soil chemistry project looking for sea mammal remains in archaeological soils (with Dr. B. Gillespie)

c) continued study of historical documents relating to the Spanish and Mexican era occupations of this area

d) students willing to undertake surveys of the campus and Pt. Mugu State Park, looking for additional archaeological sites

Projects can be undertaken as independent study or capstone.

Eligibility Requirements completion of Introduction to Archaeology, ANTH 105

preference for declared Anthropology minors and those who have completed ANTH 377 (archaeological method and theory)
