Project Details |
Cabrillo Economic Development Corporation builds and manages affordable housing developments. The CED Corp's Community Building Manager has indicated that having a team of students develop an emergency evacuation plan for one or more of their developments would be of great potential benefit to the residents. This project will require the student researchers to learn about mathematical modeling (with my guidance) and to implement their learning to solve a practical problem. Interviews with with CED personnel and with residents are expected. Interpretation of legal documents may play a part. As with all good modeling problems, possible solution methods will remain open until the context is better understood. Students may undertake this project as a course-based research project (through UNIV 498 or MATH 494), with my approval. |
Eligibility Requirements |
Calculus II completed with a grade of C or higher; Discrete Mathematics a plus. Bilingual (English/ Spanish) a plus. Programming skills or willingness to learn a plus. This project could also be taken on as an MS Project by a single MS Math student. |
Deadline | 11/1/2011 |
