Mary AdlerProfessor, English
Dr. Mary Adler is a Professor of English with a focus in Education. She came to CSUCI from the University at Albany, State University of New York (SUNY), where she earned her doctorate in Curriculum and Instruction. Her research interests focus on areas that have traditionally been marginalized in the literature and in practice, including the teaching of creative writing at the secondary level and the effects of interdisciplinary instruction on students’ understanding of the discipline. Current scholarship includes writing pedagogy, classroom discourse patterns, student learning, and curriculum development. Dr. Adler holds secondary teaching credentials in English and History from California State University, Northridge. She is a National Writing Project fellow from the University at California, Santa Barbara and from UCLA. Previous to her doctoral work, she taught middle school and adult school in Los Angeles, CA.
